My first cold in years!
Even health coaches can catch a cold and there really is nothing worse than being a health coach and blowing your nose while trying to coach clients. Well really? I unfortunately contracted a nasty cold either from someone on the plane or perhaps it was the person who sneezed right next to me last week. Not sure but it knocked me down. I thought my immune system was in pretty good shape but four days of not that much sleep, lots of parties and eating in restaurants and I was vulnerable. Coughing and stuffy nose and feeling just out of it the whole week. I tried to valiantly carry on by keeping up my walks which wiped me out completely, and painting bathrooms along with my husband, and attending a football game. The weather was spectacular all week. We broke a record or two for the warmest days in the first week of November. We here reached into the 70’s with ease on at least two days. Frustrating for me because I would have been outside the whole time either walking or working in the yard and I just didn’t have the energy. I drank tons of lemon tea with a touch of honey, drank warm lemon water, and slept whenever I could. Just not enough, I haven’t kicked it yet and it has now been six days. Thought I was over it yesterday, woke up feeling much, much better and not nearly so stuffy but today I am back down again. Even my standby natural antibiotic GOOT hasn’t knocked this thing out of me. Usually GOOT will take care of things in a day or two but maybe it doesn’t work on viruses only on infections and this is one nasty virus. So, I feel sorry for me!!!
Where will I have my home base for work?
We are closing in on the end of the course work. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel and I am happy and sad all at the same time. One of the things I like about this school thing is the goal. Had no idea where it would take me when I started out 11 months ago. Didn’t have any idea what I would learn but knew I wanted to learn as much about food and nutrition as I could. Now I am looking at endless possibilities but from a moving target. Our house in Canada is not rented for the winter as we thought it might be last week. The people who wanted to rent it came and looked at it and while they loved it they have severe allergies to dogs and cats. Well as many of my friends and family know, we have two dogs and three cats. It was a deal breaker for them. I am relieved. I did not want to be homeless this winter. The house in South Carolina is rented so we need a place to live. We can be part-time in New Hampshire with our daughter and grandchildren but we can’t be here the whole time. We will need to commute from Canada to here each week and a few times we will be babysitting – can you still call it babysitting when the “babies” are 10 and almost 15? We have one short trip at the end of January beginning of February but otherwise should be around. This creates a dilemma for me. Where do I focus my business interests? Obviously not in South Carolina as I am in the Northeast, not in Canada unless I want to have another fight with the Canadian taxman, so should it be New Hampshire even if I don’t live here? For some reason this question has been haunting me this particular week. I mentioned it to the coach of our Coaching Circle this week and she didn’t have an answer or anything to say other than she thought it must be very stressful. That was actually helpful because I was thinking it was stressful but hadn’t really accepted the fact that it really is very stressful and I need to do something about it. Take two and call myself in the morning????
What is Clean Eating?
It’s not just washing your fruit and vegetables before you eat them. It is eating foods that are not processed. Balanced eating with its basis in whole foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, some meats (grass fed beef, free range chicken) not farmed fish, healthy fats such as avocado and olive oil, nuts and seeds and some dairy. The basic principles of eating clean are:
- Keep it whole. These foods are found in nature and do not come in a box or have a label describing their ingredients.
- Get in the kitchen. When you are cooking for yourself and your family you know what goes into the food you put on the table.
- Eliminate refined sugar and carbohydrates. Here is where I say if its white you don’t want to consume it. That includes sugar, flour, potatoes, pasta, rice, bread or pastries.
- Maintain blood sugar. Keeping your blood sugar level means you don’t have the highs that trigger the lows that have you reaching for the candy bar or the fancy coffee in the afternoon. Break the cycle.
- Remember the magic combination of protein, fat, and complex carbs. If you eat a balanced diet you will have something from each one of these food groups at each meal. It works, I live it.
When we eat clean we are focusing on the quality of what we consume over the quantity of what we consume. You can eat a huge helping of food that is energy producing and healthy for you. Think kale salad or quinoa with vegetables. Whole foods will fill you up and you won’t get the cravings. No really, you won’t.
Eating good, healthy, whole food can be the catalyst to taking care of yourself in other ways too. How about meditation? I am currently participating in another one of Oprah and Deepak’s 21 Day Meditation programs. I have done these for a couple of years now and I love them and always sign up for them. They are free and are a wonderful way to learn about meditation, incorporate it into your life and see if it is something you want to explore more. Click on the picture above to learn more.
Next post should be from South Carolina
We are on the road again at the end of this coming week. We will leave New Hampshire on Thursday and go to Canada to pick up the animals and close up the house for two months then hit the road for South Carolina. Another great adventure.
