Half-Way through the Year
We are now half way through the year and I can’t believe how fast it is going. Perhaps that is a sign of getting older or maybe it is a sign of being super busy and living a very full life. I hope it is the latter because I don’t feel old at all. John and I are celebrating 48 years of being married to each other on the 21st of June. It is a milestone that not many attain these days. What is very interesting to me is the fact that we have two other couples in our church in Canada who were married on the 21st of June, one the same year but one hour before us and the other couple were married three years after us. Happy Anniversary to all of us. It is the longest day and as my god-father said at the wedding, the shortest night so make the most of it! There were lots of chuckles after that toast.
How’s the Walking Going Lou?
I’ve been working on a goal of 200 km for this month and reached 57% of my goal by Monday the 19th. Starting to push a bit more to get the five (5) miles or 8.1 km a day in there. I’m loving the walks and feel terrific when I am out there and also when I get back. Wyke is turning out to be a wonderful companion on these walks. With his new harness he doesn’t pull me at all despite his eagerness to get the show on the road. He was always good at walking with John but when with me he tended to pull more. One day I was reading about the Kurgo harness that we use in the car to secure him to the seat belt system and it said that you could use the harness for walking as well. Since I tried it, walking has been much more fun for us both and we come back happy and in Wyke’s case, very happy to snooze for a good part of the day. We walk, on average, for about two hours in the morning. We are usually out the door by 8am and home by 10. He likes to have his breakfast before we go and I tend to have mine when we get back. Neither of us likes to walk when it is raining but this week we got caught. We were both soaked when we got home. We knew when we headed out that there could be a shower but we weren’t prepared for the deluge that caught us when we were half a mile from home. Nothing to do but keep going. John and I went to Jackson, New Hampshire to celebrate our anniversary and I got in an seven mile hike one morning. The hills were impressive and I loved every minute of it. John joined me for the last three miles. He had to go and buy some walking shoes, as it turned out, so he missed most of the big hills which suited him just fine.
Moving Ain’t Easy
Our New Hampshire family moved from their home in Newbury to a new one in Wilmot 12 miles away. You might think it was simple but it wasn’t. Weeks of loaded to the brim car trips back and forth made a small dent in the move but what was left was monumental. Katie rented a 27 foot U-Haul that John drove with much trepidation. The new house is halfway up Mt. Kearsarge and the road is very, very steep. We arrived at noon and were told the kids wanted to sleep in the new house that night. WHAT???? With that goal in mind we set about the task of emptying the house and loading the truck. One of our big boy helpers couldn’t get there so the heavy lifting was left to John, Jack and Katie with side support from Libby and Me. It took us six hours to load the truck and when we arrived at the new house realized the beds were loaded first so we had to empty most of the truck to get them out. This is not a career move!
The goal was achieved and we sat down to dinner at the dining room table at 9pm with all beds made and boxes surrounding us. We all swore that the next move will include professional movers.
Food Frolic
The grandchildren are off to camp in northern Ontario for six weeks and I am re-dedicating myself to clean eating and healthy living again. This past week has been just about the worst for me as far as healthy food goes. I’ve eaten pizza, hot dogs, hamburgers, lobster rolls and wine. My body hurts from using muscles I didn’t know I had and my stomach says enough. So get back on track, don’t beat yourself up too much and in a few days you’ll be right as rain again. Here’s another great tasting broccoli salad to enjoy.
