Here’s a Simple Trick

I have been a fan of AnnMarie Gianni for years.  Her skincare products are wonderful.  I am also a big fan of finding ways to make life easy when you are trying to eat well.  Five years ago I started bringing my lunch to work in a large quart Ball jar.  I called it Salad in a Jar – well I guess I was ahead of my time. AnnMarie and her colleagues discovered this neat simple trick too and she published a wonderful blog about how to make Salad in a Jar and then included 6 Recipes.  Since I really believe in this method for taking a healthy lunch (or breakfast) with you to work or even when you are at home, I am pleased to include a link to her blog.  If you are worried about portion control, this takes care of it.  You get a lot of food in a quart jar and you can eat all of it.  The trick, as AnnMarie says, and I have said to my clients, is in the layering.  Please click on this link –Salad in a Jar – to get the recipes and to read her blog.  You will be glad you did.

The Last Quarter

The third test is done and now the first week of the last quarter is also done.  This portion of the course is focusing very heavily on building a health coaching business that works for you.  They include a lot of information about using technology, building a website, building a social media presence through Facebook and Twitter and pushing yourself to get out there and make contact with people who need you. I find the technology piece fits me quite nicely and I am not intimidated by it – well a little bit by Twitter but not the website or Facebook.  Getting out and meeting people in person is a little more difficult.  There are some things inherently different about living in more than one place the way we currently do.

Meeting with Zanni

I met with my wonderful accountability coach Zanni this week, in person.  We found each other back in the spring and have been Skyping with each other every two weeks since then.  Finally, this past Wednesday, we met in person in Hanover, New Hampshire.  Zanni lives in Vermont and I live either in Quebec or in South Carolina but I do get to take care of my grandchildren who live in New London, NH occasionally so this just worked out.  It was great to talk in person but it convinced me that Skype definitely works well if you cannot meet in person.  We just picked up where we left off.  Thank you Zanni!

My Start with Technology in 1967

lulutvguideMany, many years ago back in 1967, I worked with a photographer at Expo ’67 in Montreal.  We photographed quite a number of the pavilions and in addition we did a promotional article for T.V. Guide that featured a picture phone.  I was the person at Expo ’67 and I was photographed talking to someone on the picture phone who was in Disneyland in California.  You can see the article from July 15, 1967 in this picture.  If you click on it it will enlarge and you can see more detail.  So fun to find this in my box of memorabilia.  My most famous adventure.  Little did I know that I would be using today’s version of the picture phone 52 years later.

Taking Care of Grandchildren

This week I was in New Hampshire taking care of Jack and Libby.  I experienced first hand what it is like to be a single mum and it is exhausting.  The children are wonderful and very self-reliant but keeping up with their schedules and needs is demanding.  The next time I am there I will have John with me and it should be a good bit easier.  They have a wonderful car pool to help with getting Jack to Proctor in the morning and home at night.  I took Libby to school in the morning after getting a lunch ready for her and then she came home on the bus.  Trying to keep her away from gluten still and the best solution is a hearty soup with gluten free noodles.  This seems to work well and she likes it and with a thermos the soup stays good and warm.  Jack is eating all his meals at school so that is a big help.  He is playing football and came home this week and said he loves it.  Libby is playing soccer and is very quick on the field.  I got to watch her practice on Tuesday.

To Vaccinate or not???It’s personal

There has been a flurry of friends who have come down with Shingles in the last little while.  This is rather concerning to me and I wish I knew why it was happening.  It used to be so rare that you would hear of someone getting Shingles but not anymore.  This week I decided to get the Shingles vaccination and the one for Pneumonia and this year’s Flu.  I haven’t had a flu shot in years but since I had my heart attack I don’t come under the same health category anymore.  I need to protect my health and getting shingles or pneumonia would not be a good thing.  I look at it as a preventative measure but I wasn’t necessarily happy to do it. I fight the medication piece of this health journey but am working on my attitude.  The drugs are necessary to keep things going well and protecting my health along with eating the healthiest food I can.  If I do these things it should go a long way to keeping me in good shape.

The Magic of Walnuts.

My doctor recommends a handful of walnuts every day.  I was surprised but also pleased that she did.  I found an article this week that tells you why you should eat walnuts.  I happen to like them so this is not a difficult thing for me to do.  You might be interested in reading about it by clicking HERE.

Free Consult

Please glouisecombinedive me a call or drop me a line via email if you are interested in doing a FREE one-hour Health Consultation.  I would love to talk to you and we can do it in person, over the phone or via Skype or Facetime.  We don’t have to be in the same part of the world.  I have been working with people from all over Canada and the US and as far away as Norway.  As I mentioned above, my coach lives in Vermont and she and I have a great relationship that was built using Skype. Have a wonderful week everyone.  I know I will especially if the weather stays the way it has been for the last 10 days.

Happy Birthday to my wonderful Libby who is turning 10 Monday, September 21st xoxo
