We have come to the end of the first quarter of 2022. Time just seems to be flying by and with spring coming on fast we will be in summer before I have put away the winter boots. Our daffodils are working hard to come up, we can almost see them growing. We are looking forward to the display when they bloom as we planted another 100 bulbs last fall. I think they are supposed to spread too which should make for a really pretty spring show.
Travel This Week

We left Asheville on Monday after a wonderful weekend with the family. The weather cooperated so we were able to be outdoors for most of the time. Sad to say goodbye and head north to the colder weather but we know we will see everyone again soon. I actually love the drive from Asheville as we head north out of the city and go through some of the prettiest Tennessee mountains before hitting the Virginia border. We were lucky to have a gorgeous day to drive and we made excellent time. We stopped in Carlisle, PA for the night where we have stayed at a Pet Friendly Hotel a couple of times. It is pretty much half way between Asheville and New London. The dogs met a friend there the next morning and played hard for about 20 minutes before we had to get into the car. It meant they slept very well for the rest of the trip.
Update on Jenny Lane

A year ago this week we were ripping up the kitchen floor. What we have accomplished in a year is truly amazing. We arrived home to find that the Drywall guy, Eric, was working hard on getting the walls done in the hallway, bathroom and laundry room on the ground floor. He is super efficient and does a wonderful job. By Friday he was done, coming each day to work for an hour or so. The transformation was quite something to watch. He left Friday and we said we hoped to see him just one more time when we redo Katie’s bathroom but it wouldn’t be for awhile. He had fit us in between some other jobs and we certainly appreciated it. John and I then had our work cut out for us as we planned to prime and paint the ceiling in the bathroom and the walls in the other rooms. John did all the priming and the one ceiling, I did the walls in the hallway and the laundry room. Hopefully I will get the bathroom walls done before the team arrive this week. We should see some major changes by the end of the week. In the middle of all this the new washer and dryer were delivered. I’m not happy about having to buy a new set but we plan to sell the ones we had. The design of the laundry just wouldn’t accommodate a top loading washer.

Exercise This Week

Back up north again and after having done a wonderful hike in North Carolina, I was excited to see what the conditions were on the rail trail. Wednesday the dogs and I headed out there to see if we could actually walk. Except for one spot, the trail was clear and down to dirt and the field was not under water so were able to go around the loop through Proctor. It was a beautiful day and we all were so happy to be back out there. Then on Friday we were joined by our good friends David and Sally and their dog Sydney who thought she was in doggy heaven with two pals to play with and freedom to run as fast as she wanted to and she is fast. We also welcomed John to the walk and though he complained about how long the walk was he did the whole thing. I’m working on him.

As you know Katie and I joined the Stand With Ukraine virtual challenge and we both finished while we were in Asheville. I dedicated only a certain portion of my exercises to the challenge as I wanted to be very focused on why I was doing it. I am also pleased to report that they raised $501,375 with 100% of the dollars (minus transaction fees only) going to The International Red Cross and Save the Children. I am proud of the small part we both played in support of our friends in Ukraine.
No Recipe this week but I’ll try and find one for next week.
