Week 35 – Fall has arrived

IMG_3873Here in Canada the seasons do not change gradually they can, and do, switch overnight.  That is exactly what happened this week.  I drove my 91 year old mother back to the city after she had spent two glorious months out here in the country.  We left and it was so warm, up in the high 80’s, that she was worried she might need to go out and buy some air conditioners.  A front came through and within two days it was 54 degrees and the dense fog on the lake made it impossible to see past the end of the dock.  Today I am thinking it is time to hone my fire building skills and get a cozy fire going to take the chill and dampness out of the house.  The geese are heading south and I hear them every morning.  Honestly, last weekend was in the 90’s and it was what we called real summer weather.  Dinners on the porch by candlelight and too hot in the sun to sit for very long.  This weekend I am thinking about building a fire and getting cozy.  Does it do that anywhere else or is this a phenomenon known to the Northeast US and Eastern Canada?

No new module this week.  It was exam week, our third in this almost year long course.  They very kindly give us two weeks to take the test which is wonderful since so many of the students are working full-time jobs.  They also give you two chances to take the test which makes it a bit less daunting.  I was truly amazed as I did my 10 week review, of all that was covered and how much of it I found to be almost second nature now.  Since I am living it, all that learning and knowledge is just being absorbed into my very being.  It is no longer something that is confined to a couple of days a week or a few hours a day.  It is every day and all day and sometimes, ugh, in the middle of the night when I wake up.  I can’t seem to get enough.  When we started the course way back at the beginning of January I had no idea where it was going or how I would get there.  My first post was at the end ofTest3Passed Week 1 on January 18th was full of energy and a goal.  My journey has taken a couple of twists and turns.  I was so strong and convinced that I was on the right path of healing my body through food and exercise.  I did heal it but the twist was the heart attack at the end of May.  I regard this as a set-back or as they say in the stock market business, a correction.  Pretty much a major correction actually.  Despite all we do to be healthy and to eat healthy and to exercise, some things you cannot control.  I believe this has been a major reminder to me that I am not in control of anything but my attitude about what is going on.  So, I take this correction for what it is and move forward using the past three months to build up my strength and not hold back on my learning or my coaching.  I care deeply about others and I want to help them live the best life possible.  Believe it or not, I am living the best life I could possibly live and I am happy, content and full of hope of what the future might bring despite this bump in the road.

IMG_3849Once Labor Day (Labour Day in Canada) is over, John and my brother and two friends take off for the wilds north of the St. Lawrence for some trout fishing. They work diligently on their menus and they each take turns providing meals. They have it so well worked out.  They eat well and enjoy a simpler life while away.  No television or internet except for some cell service but they don’t have permanent electricity or plumbing.  In the past they have not been very fortunate in catching many trout but this year has been a banner year.  I hope they bring some back so we can smoke it.  I like smoked trout better than smoked salmon.

Tomorrow begins the last set of 10 weeks of modules.  I am excited to see the end in sight but I also know that I will miss the work.  The school has added something called Coaching Circles to our learning program.  The Coaching Circles are mandatory for graduation and start the first week of October and run every week for six weeks on the same day at the same time for your individual group.  We must attend four out of six of those.  It is a lesson in making a commitment and sticking with it.  You are allowed to change one, but only one.  If you can’t make this commitment to yourself then how do you commit to the needs of your clients?  I am signed up and ready to participate.

This week’s recipe first appeared in January but it is worth repeating as it is so good.  I have added a few more options plus you can print it easily from this wonderful app that I am using.  Enjoy!

Please give me a call or drop me a line via email if you are interested in doing a FREE one-hour Health Consultation.  I would love to talk to you and we can do it in person, over the phone or via Skype or Facetime.  We don’t have to be in the same part of the world.  I have been working with people from all over the place including as far away as Norway.  My own coach lives in Vermont and I have never actually met her in person.  She is so important to my life and part of my incredible support system.  We will meet in person for the first time this week.  Little miracles abound.  Have a wonderful week everyone.  I know I will I am going to New Hampshire to take care of my grandchildren for a few days.  Always a joy.
