Week 18 – Home

We are home. It has been quite a trip and it is late. I am not sure I can write something that makes sense at this hour. I will tell you that we arrived and we immediately stripped off our clothes, jumped in the shower and washed with everything available. I can not tell you how good it feels to be back with family. They wouldn’t even look at us until we had showered and changed our clothes. Makes sense.

It was a long drive. Day 1 wasn’t so bad. We left around 7:30 and headed north to Staunton, Virginia. We had a wonderful Inn that assured us of their protocols for cleaning and we felt good about it. The place was wonderful and a little bit of heaven. The cabin was down by a pond, cows in the field across from the cabin, a hot tub, a kitchen, a fireplace and believe me we were in feeling a little unreal.

Well, reality set in today as we left Virginia and headed north. We made a wrong turn and ended up closer to New York City than I was happy with. I can’t begin to tell you how upset I was. Screaming at John that I should never have taken the exit that would take us across the Tapanzee Bridge. My paranoia was in full swing. I refused to stop at any gas stations and boy did I need to. I was totally miserable. The first part of the trip was excellent. The rest stops were clean and barely used but by the time we got up to New York, forget it. Even though there were not that many folks on the road there were many, many more in New York and New Jersey. By the time we got up north of New York City I wouldn’t let John back in the car without him sanitizing his shoes. Afterall, the car was one of our safe zones. I am committed to this philosophy. The house and car are safe, every where else is not safe. I used sanitizer three times before I got back in the car.

I am so so very grateful to be back in New Hampshire. I cried when I saw Katie and Libby. They are fine and healthy and so far, so are we. Life sure is different now. The dogs are happy to be home. Bean has already let everyone in the neighborhood know she is back. We are blessed to have made it in one piece and for the duration I am not leaving “home”.

It is late, I have been up since early morning and I am tired. Sleep well and I will write a longer version of the saga at another time.
