Week 18 – Commuting

Spring is trying to come to Canada

We are back in New Hampshire after two weeks in Canada. The weather was not exactly what we had hoped it would be and by Wednesday we had had enough and headed south. We packed up and closed up the house, temporarily this time, to head for what we hoped was a warmer and sunnier spot. In truth it didn’t clear up until the weekend but we are significantly more comfortable here thanks to all our hard work on this house. We did manage to accomplish a great deal while we were up there. Not only is the gas fireplace working again but the hot tub is beautiful. After the struggles with getting the chemicals balanced we cleaned and replaced the filters and put some new bromine in after emptying and refilling the tub. We did a lot of work on the inside of the house and put back things where we wanted them to be and I started on the kitchen painting. I removed the cupboard handles and filled in all the holes. When I get up there again I will sand and then paint the doors. In the meantime I need to find some new handles. There is always something.

Bears and Cubs it must be Spring

Not sure if this bear is the one who hung around last fall but if so she must have been trusting enough as she came back with her twins for a visit. They are very cute and look as if they would be cuddly but that would not be a good idea at all. Our neighbors said they had seen them a couple of times in their yards too. They all look healthy so I am guessing there is enough food out there in the woods for them. Katie was working from home and noticed something go by her office window. When she looked up, this momma was looking in at her. The big surprise was the babies of course. We haven’t seen that before. She hasn’t been back since we returned and maybe that is because the dogs are here but I hope she is off with her family somewhere safe.

Update on Jenny Lane

The other reason for coming home was that we were notified that we had a delivery coming with almost all of the pieces needed to finish the bathroom and laundry renovation. As you can see, it was delivered and is now safely stored in the garage until the installation can take place. I was surprised at how many pieces there are to this reno. There are tall cabinets for the bathroom, a vanity and counter top, a sink and cabinet with another upper cabinet plus counter for the laundry. I can hardly wait for it all to be installed, which we hope will happen sometime this coming week. What a difference it will make. However, in the meantime, after a plea from me, our plumber did come and install the toilet in our bathroom so no more midnight climbs up the stairs, Yippee!

Finally a Formal Dance

On a glorious but still cool Saturday, we went to Proctor to see the start of the first “Prom” since 2019. Libby and her pals went all out. Proctor does a really nice thing when getting everyone into the buses to take them to the venue. They have a “Green Carpet” and all the participants get to walk up the hill on a fake green grass carpet to the cheers and claps of all the proud parents, faculty and in this case, proud grand parents. It was so much fun to see everyone dressed up and believe me the smiles on their faces was worth everything. So glad we got to take part as viewers.

The Perils of Walking in the Wind

The dogs and I managed to get in a few walks despite the fact that the wind was absolutely wicked all week. Unfortunately one of the things that happens to me is I come down with a sinus infection when I get chilled and when I walk in the wind. It has been sometime since that happened but this week it hit me hard. I did do a Covid test but it was negative for which I am glad. I really haven’t been around any people so I don’t think I caught something from someone but I know in the past I have managed to get a sinus issue especially when walking in the wind without a hat that covers my ears. My fault. Anyway, I am recovering but am not feeling quite up to myself.

No recipe this week but maybe I’ll find something fun to try this coming week.
