Week 41 – Under

I am a little under the weather. We arrived in North Hatley on Wednesday, John’s birthday, and attended a wonderful party with I don’t know how many people in attendance. The weather was good, it was mostly warm, and the food was fabulous. Things went downhill from there. Not sure what is going on but I have tested negative for Covid so far but I am really, really tired and have a cough but only when I am lying down. What does that mean? I really don’t know. John has an eye infection for which I was able to get some antibiotics. This is a first with both of us being under the weather. We had such hopes for the weekend and we haven’t been able to do any of things we wanted to do.

The weather was glorious when we first got here in North Hatley. We went out for a boat ride and could not have been happier. It was almost hot. We spent about two hours out there and enjoyed every minute of it. The colors in the trees were perfect. Then it turned cold and damp and windy.

The Big Project

When we redid the laundry at Jenny Lane we had to buy new machines because we needed front loading machines so we could have a counter. The machines that were there were not that old, probably no more than 4 or 5 years for the washer and the dryer was new as we had purchased it after we bought the house. The machines we had in Canada were very old and pretty much on their way out but still working. My plan was to replace the ones in Canada with the ones from Jenny Lane but really, how? We were able to borrow an open trailer from our friend David and we loaded them on the trailer and headed north. I had checked with the Customs & Border folks and they seemed inclined to be open about us bringing them into Canada. So we did. And on Wednesday we headed north with the washer and dryer in the trailer. The Customs & Border folks could not have been less interested. Something I had fussed about for months and it was a nothing deal. My amazing husband and our friend Doug were able to off load them and remove the old machines in 45 minutes. Doug’s daughter took the old machines to use as a second set for farm clothes. John had to get a new electric hookup and vent for the dryer and new hoses for the washer but they are all hooked up and working beautifully. Here’s a plan that actually worked!!!

Full Moon Over the Lake

Have a wonderful week. We are continuing to recuperate. Couldn’t have a more perfect place to do so.
