Week 12 – March Madness

What a week it has been. The weather not withstanding, there seems to have been a lot of things happening around Jenny Lane. Spring is trying so, so hard to arrive but old man winter just keeps blowing through here as the green shoots of the spring bulbs shiver in the cold snow.

Update on Jenny Lane

Doors gone and he is starting on the trim work

At long last we have started the last of the inside projects on Jenny Lane. Better known as Katie’s bathroom, it has sat there patiently waiting for 3 1/2 years to get its facelift. Why we left it to last I do not know. It’s not as if it was anything beautiful to look at. It had a miserable closet with horrible passing door that were not anchored so they swung freely if you tried to open or close them. The sink was old and stained, the bath tub which we thought was a shower and a bath tub turned out to be only a bath tub (we found out after we closed on the house – shame on us), the floor was miserable linoleum, it had really ugly wallpaper on the walls, well you get my drift. We did paint it when we first moved in and covered up the wallpaper and painted the sink cabinet but there really wasn’t much we could do. We had a new tub spicket that included a shower thingy that we hooked onto the wall so Katie was able to use it as a shower and we put up a rather pretty shower curtain just to try and make things look a bit better. Oh, and we did put in a new, insulated window. That was it.

The closet is gone and we are down to studs and the old insulation

We discovered that there are actually two full floors with two layers of plywood so removing the floors is a challenge. Some of the walls were paneling and they were really fun to remove because they came off with one or two pulls but the sheetrock was a different story and the sheet rock with the blown in insulation attached to it on one wall was almost impossible.

Exciting when he went through the wall

We are removing the tub and replacing it with a shower only so the wall at the end of the tub is coming down. It will be replaced by a half wall which will allow some light from the window to get into the shower area.

The trailer didn’t come until Wednesday so we stored the demo stuff in the garage until then. As John is the main man when it comes to demoing, I am the schlepper who carries everything from the upstairs to the garage and then to the trailer. The trailer is pretty much half full now and I can proudly say that except for one or two items I carried the lot of it from the bathroom to the trailer. So you might ask why I have a sore back now? Because I overdid it and pulled a muscle throwing stuff into the trailer. However, Katie has some amazing CBD cream that I massaged into my back and it made it feel a whole lot better.

Walking This Week

I did manage to get on the treadmill a few days this week but took a few days off because of all the work I was doing going up and down stairs carrying the sheet rock and studs from the bathroom to the trailer. That in itself was a pretty darn good workout. I am about to start my 17th week of doing at least one work out on the Peloton treadmill. Most weeks it is way more than that but Peloton tells me I have a streak going. Runkeeper tells me I have got some serious mileage in this month too. Who says I am not goal oriented?

Travelers

Katie and Libby were both in D.C. this week. Not together. Libby was on a project with her school and Katie was there for work. From the looks of this picture it was pretty darn nice there and I heard it was peak cherry blossom time. Lucky for both of them.

We have another busy week here with more demo and with some help the removal of the bathtub and the sink. Then we are off to North Carolina for a week to see “the kid”. Katie is off to Florida this week so we are becoming like ships passing in the night. Libby is back to school for her last semester. I cannot believe that Jack graduates in 7 weeks and Libby in 9. This has been one fast year!!!!
