Week 6 – Sunny Pics

This week we have had some bluebird days that encouraged us to go outside and enjoy the sunshine. It always amazes me how warm the sun gets in February. If you can find a spot out of the wind but in the sun you might even be able to sit there for a little while and enjoy it.

Walking This Week

I did manage to get outside for two good walks this week and did three other days on the treadmill. I pushed myself way too hard on the treadmill and needed to take a little break. I pretended I was in a race to see how fast I could go in 50 minutes. Not so smart really but I did manage to get just over four miles. I was wiped out after that effort so it was good that I had something else that needed to be done over the next two days. Read on.

Canada for 24 Hours

We had a lovely lady who wanted to live in our house for the winter because she was selling her condo and needed a place to stay. We agreed that she could move in as early as mid-October if her condo sold and she needed to get out. Then the date moved to November 1st but still no sale. Finally for December 1st we said she needed to at least pay for the house as we had moved out on the 1st of November to accommodate her. She never moved in. Her condo didn’t sell until February with a closing in May. This put her in a difficult position as she really didn’t need our house but she wanted to honor her agreement. In the meantime, the good friends who had been in the house during Covid, had a flood with major damage in their house due to burst pipes. They wrote and said they needed our house for at least three or four months. Amazing how things work out. Our lady was off the hook, and we were able to help our friends. We felt we needed to get up to the house to make sure everything was in good shape there so off we went. We spent about 24 hours just putting things together, cleaning (although there wasn’t much as she hadn’t really used the house) and making sure we didn’t have any pipes that were leaking. We had that awful cold a week ago but we had turned the water off in the house just in case. It was probably a good decision. We turned the water back on and the hot water and checked all the pipes as well as the washer and the dishwasher and all seemed to be fine. It was quite warm up there this week as you can see by the picture of the lake. It honestly looked as if the ice was getting ready to go out and it only just froze about a week ago. What a totally strange winter it is and has been.

Jenny Lane Then and Now

Two years ago John and Katie started taking down the wall paper over paneling wall in the upstairs hall. We really couldn’t believe that there was panel under the wall paper and wires that were really unsafe. John really loves to destroy things so he had a ball ripping this stuff out and getting it ready for the insulation and the new wiring and then walls. The floor had been old carpet that he had already taken up so it was just plywood. We have come a long way from there. February a year ago was all about the laundry and bathroom.

Bean’s Birthday

And she is five (5). It is hard to believe as she still looks like a puppy but it really has been five years. The bark box came just in time to celebrate and, of course, Wyke had to get in on the treat too.

Cooking This Week

Word has it that our Sunday pizza (Super Bowl) is from Half-Baked Harvest. Certainly we are looking forward to it as we do pretty much every Sunday. Katie and Libby are the pizza chefs and the rest of us are the beneficiaries. Here is a link to the website for the recipe. Sheet Pan Buffalo Chicken Pizza it is quite a long recipe so it makes a bit more sense to just give you the link. There are so many things to explore on the website. I just discovered that there are weekly menu planners there too. Now I have to go investigate.
